What Love is Not - 8 Things

The Bible tells us what love is, and what love is not.  What love does, and what love won't do. In this post we're going to go through eight things that love isn't, nor will it do.

These are things that will seem strange to us at first, as some of us might have a sense of love that leans heavily on how the world would define it, rather than the Word of God. But if we're talking about love it's best to go to the one who invented it, and see if we're doing it right; wouldn't you say?

Love Doesn't Envy

Envy comes when a person lacks a quality that is found in someone else, and is a potent source of unhappiness. This could be considered the emotional kickoff to covetousness.

Love Doesn't Boast

The word used in the King James is "Vaunt." To speak boastfully or being a braggard. Love doesn't boast to prove itself. You can judge a tree by its fruit. The fruit doesn't have to tell you what it is.

Love is not Puffed Up

It's not inflated and empty. Infatuation or lust is puffed up, but love is built up. Big difference.

Love does not Behave Unseemly

Love isn't indecent or unbecoming, nor will it behave that way.

Love Seeks not it's Own

Love is not going to be selfish and only interested on taking. Rather its focus is to give.

Love is not Easily Provoked

Love would rather trust than be suspicious and jealous.

Love Thinks no Evil

Love wants only to think good toward another. Never wishing ill or bad happenings to anyone.

Love doesn't Rejoice in Iniquity

Love isn't happy with our iniquities, but would rather we be rid of them for our own good.

What's beautiful about understanding these things, is that we learn to love a little better, and get a better understanding of our Heavenly Father. After all, he is love.

1 Corinthians 13:

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

We've talked about the things that love isn't, what what about the things that love actually is? Continue on to: "What is Love - 7 Things."
